ECOMAX

ECOMAX pioneered the introduction of natural plant fibre kitchen brushes in Australia. The company’s journey began when founder, Kim Good, was travelling through Sri Lanka for her first fair trade venture. During her visit, she was inspired by the traditional coconut fibre scrubbers used by local village women. Captivated by the durability and effectiveness of the fibres, Kim saw their potential and fell in love with their natural “scrubability”. From that discovery, ECOMAX was born; blending ethical sourcing with sustainable innovation.

ECOMAX Brushes are crafted by a small, family-run, business in Sri Lanka that empowers local women through employment and skills training. Women are trained in every step of the brush-making process; from preparing natural fibres to finishing and packing, ensuring each brush is made with care, sustainability, and craftsmanship.

Empowering Women Through Fair Trade

The women artisans who work for ECOMAX Brushes earn a living wage, receive bonuses for progress, and have retirement savings. Flexible work options support the women throughout their lives, allowing them to care for family while building skills and independence.

As demand has grown, so has the team; now spanning generations: from 17-year-old Sachini to 72-year-old Kumarapeli, whose decades of experience help preserve the art of brush making.

Even through the COVID years, ECOMAX ensured that no one lost their job.  Wages were still distributed and basic food hampers were issued. The high ethical standards of ECOMAX are still having a far reaching impact today.  In addition to fair wages ECOMAX provides:

  • Respite care when needed
  • Medical attention when required
  • Books and materials for the school children of workers
  • English classes

Ethical, sustainable and responsible, your purchase of ECOMAX products is a win for people and planet.
